Before I start my rant, let me preface it a little bit.
I believe every human being since the fall of Adam with the exception of Jesus Christ has been imperfect. Our imperfections take on various forms. For some, a propensity to lie. For others, steal, for others, pornography. For others, homosexual activity.
All these activities are considered sin by God. It doesn't matter what society says, what I say, what a political activist says, what preachers say, the judge of the universe is God, not us.
So all of us find ourselves in the same boat, breaking God's laws on morality on some level multiple times. The sins that tempt you might not tempt me, and vice versa. The standard is perfection though, so if we mess up once, in God's eyes, we are imperfect, corrupted, and we thus have fore fitted any chance to live with God in eternity (God will not tolerate imperfection and unholiness in His presence).
Well that is really bad news right? Makes God look pretty mean huh? Demanding a 100% from us, knowing we can't deliver. But here is the good news! Jesus, God in human form, came down and offered his blood as payment for all the sins in the world. All we have to do is accept that Jesus did this for us, be willing to do our best in turning away from what God considers sin, and with the power of God's Holy Spirit living in us we can begin to live (though never perfect) as God intended for us.
Ok, preface over. What happens if society decides to over ride what God says is sin? Does society negate what God has established? Hardly. All that happens is that when we sin, society reinforces in us that we really didn't do anything wrong, so we don't seek forgiveness. Then we show up at God's door step one day and find that we, because we felt that we never did anything wrong, failed to reach out to Jesus for forgiveness during our life, and we are unable to enter into Heaven with God. Worse yet, we have to pay for our sins both against God, His order, other people, and ourselves. Not a position I would want anyone to find themselves in, as the penalty for sin is eternal death in hell.
So let's go to "Bunny's" post at the Naval Institutes blog-
http://blog.usni.org/?p=2493
Bunny is advocating that the Military, the Navy in particular, endorse homosexual behavior as "ok" because the society at large says it should. This would overturn the current military stance of "Don't ask, don't tell." Which essentially means that when you are in the military, you should focus on being a sailor, or a marine, or a soldier first, and keep your sexual preferences to yourself.
Our nation was founded on Christian principles. Our military is there to protect the American people. If the military changes the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy they are essentially abducting part of their responsibility to protect the American people by endorsing homosexual activity as "OK" by inference. This would do an extreme disservice to the millions of people who fall into this sin. More and more people would again feel that when they engage in homosexual activity they aren't really doing anything wrong. Again, many risk not reaching out to the Savior of their souls, Jesus, as in their minds they have committed no sin. See, even the military says it is ok! God says it isn't, just like adultery, lust, getting high, etc.. isn't.
What we need is more societal institutions standing up for what is right, so when people do wrong it is reinforced, not brushed aside, so people will seek forgiveness and change from the God who made them and WANTS to have them forgiven and changed. Reversing the don't ask don't tell policy does the opposite of this, and is unwise for many reasons, this being the primary one.
