Something To Watch: FTC Decides It Has The Power To Shut Down ISPs

The Federal Trade Commission, for the first time, shut down a "rogue" Internet Service Provider. Now apparently 3FN, the ISP that got shut down, were no good guys. They were a shell corporation controlled by foreign nationals that used 3FN for criminal activities. What is interesting here is without a mandate, the FTC just decided it had the power to shut down "rogue" ISPs.

This is significant because there is no real definition of what a "rogue" ISP is. Before the government assumes the power to start shutting down parts of the Internet, let's make sure its power to do so is very defined and unambiguous...else in the future that "rogue" amorphous definition might expand to include ISP's that host sites critical of the ruling regime.
